FAQ's About The Norfolk Southern Current Legal News Thread

Rick Shapiro, John Cooper and Randy Appleton are Railroad/FELA attorneys with over 20 years law practice each, who focus on railroad/FELA practice from our main office in Va. Beach, less than 15 minutes from "black rock" the Norfolk HQ of the thoroughbred NS. Actually, our law firm was founded by a N & W conductor, who went on to law school and founded our firm in the 1980's. Our FELA firm is grateful to to get involved with Yard Limits, is donating to the Fallen Brothers Fund, and we have a 20 plus year history of representing NS, CSX, Amtrak and short line workers on FELA claims.

We regularly represent NS workers, and this Legal News Thread will be a free exchange of current NS legal news and discussion of current events that have any legal aspect to them, especially touching on health, safety, occupational diseases, occupational injuries and related matters.

Practical Tips and Guidelines: No profanity/cussing, avoid using actual names of particular persons, dates or actual place names (mention "supervisor" rather than a name, state a "yard" rather than which one or where), please do not ask for specific legal advice, and if you are currently represented by an attorney we are not permitted to address any issues that you already retained an attorney to advise you on (we cannot provide specific legal advice and refuse to interfere in situations involving any claim or case you have already retained an attorney on). If you are seeking specific legal advice, a public discussion thread is not the place to ask your questions, so please either send a private email message (and always confirm our receipt of it by a phone call) or call us on our toll free phone number for a free, confidential consultation regarding any injury or disease claim/issue.

Also, note that we handle all kinds of FELA injury/disease claims as attorneys, but as private attorneys do not in any way take the place of, or get involved in health/welfare/benefit issues that are the exclusive jurisdiction of union representatives with NS. Health/welfare/benefit issues of NS unionized workers must be first directed to union representatives, as the union-railroad bargaining agreement makes the union-railroad grievance process the exclusive process of these grievances. Recently, Congress did enact harassment/intimidation laws, and now there is a limited overlap of how serious harassment or intimidation issues are handled.

About Us: Shapiro, Cooper, Lewis & Appleton FELA/Railroad Injury Attorneys have authored hundreds of railroad and FELA articles on our main website, and have over 100 years combined injury law experience. Firm attorneys included among “The Best Lawyers in America” 2010 Edition and the law firm has the highest rating (AV) granted by Martindale-Hubbell attorney rating service.
