  • Gramma's Hickory Nut Pie Recipe

I know there is a couple of outdoors gals here, and out here in Pennsylvania Hickory Nuts are plentiful this time of year. Thought I'd share Gramma's Hickory nut pie with you all. It's a little bit of work gather enough nuts and shucking them, but the pie is certainly worth the efforts of your labor.

I like a nice pie crust made using lard, but any will work,
    3 eggs, slightly beaten
    1/2 cup butter
    2/3 cup sugar
    1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cup chopped hickory nut meats
Combine ingredients and bake in unbaked pie shell for 15 mintues at 450 degrees. Cut the heat to 350 degrees and continue baking until a knife inserted into center comes out clean, about 35 mintues or so.
