  • A months worth of action on the CNO&TP in KY & TN

As I have previously mentioned on past threads, November was a busy month for us, with a lot of time on the road in several states. While our main objective was the Southern 630 as she ran the last trips of the year, we also spent a lot of time on the CNO&TP (not that should be a big surprise!). Between the days we just killed time while on the road to a couple of planned trips, we managed to shoot on all Three districts, and came away with a large variety of locations, power and weather.

It seems like I always get backed up this time of the year, but I have FINALLY got everything from last month processed and up on Pbase, a total of 45 new images with plenty of EMD, signals, a little foreign power and other assorted goodies. If you have a little time to kill, be sure to check out everything by clicking this link, and then you can choose the galleries for each district. >>>> 2013 Rail Photography Photo Gallery by E.M. & Carmon Bell at

Here are a few highlights that might wet your whistle to check the rest of them out.

A cloudy sunrise greets a Northbound grain train as it passes through downtown Wilmore, Kentucky 11/30/13

Frost still covers everything in the valley that the sun has not touched yet as Northbound 376 soars across the Kentucky River valley at High Bridge, Kentucky. 111/30/13

The shadows are starting to creep into the valley as Northbound 168 comes through the interlocker at Geneva KY late in the day.

NS 123 rolls down the valley near McKinney KY with a KCS "Southern Belle" on the point

Train 295 framed by the soon to be gone signal bridge at Waynesburg, KY.

"Black & White moving Brown" The calender says December, the Christmas season, but on the railroad its the peak UPS season. For the next month or so, all over the NS system these intermodal trains toting UPS (and to a lesser extent Fed-Ex) are the hottest things on the rails. If you are having something for the holidays shipped via UPS ground, chances are your package is getting a fast train ride as seen here on NS 295 at Waynesburg, Ky. The legend says Santa uses a sleigh, but in these modern times that sleigh is powered by EMD and GE's flying low (and not from the North Pole). When that Brown truck pulls up to your house on time, be sure to thank a railroader!

A UP GEVO brings NS 224 up the valley just North of Evensville, TN

Fishermen reel in the last catches of the day as Northbound 288 crosses the Tennessee River (Tenbridge), starting its overnight run up the CNO&TP.
