  • Vietnam War book written by a rail

By Rey Martinez; Book Review - Six Silent Men
The best blow by blow insider's account ever. This one really deserves to be made into a Hollywood Movie.

I have read this book, very good. I also have a unique insight, the man named Derby Jones, is one of my soon to be retired co-workers here in Boise.
Only 511 ft lbs of Tq and only 1100 degrees EGT, damn, I need more fuel...

I bet he was a great Rail. The Vietnam Vets I know brought a lot into the hard science of railroading.

Derby is actually a custodian, janitor. He retired as First Sargeant, said he was done with anything of pressure. Pretty good ole boy....

Hmmm-interesting. The realdeal vets I know all went into operations with a few exceptions-and they really changed the way railroading was done with the knowledge they brought back from the jungles of SE Asia. Great guys all-and complete contradictions to the stereotypes of the 60s/70s. It said in the brief "about the author" bio that Reynel Martinez works on the railroad, though it did not say in what capacity.
