So gang what are your comments as to what you have, like, and why?

I have a Nook, part of the reason I went with the Nook was the fact at the time it had PDF capability. The other reason was simple, I was able to get a Nook with my AMEX rewards, but did not have enough points for a Kindle, and I was getting to ditch the AMEX. So Nook it was.

Overall I think they are half a dozen of one six of the other. But I've never worked with a Kindle. So...

    eReader Discussions.

Picked up a Barnes & Noble Nook Color a month ago and I love it. It has a wifi connection to surf the net or buy new books. Several books have been converted into Nook format. The entire series I'm reading right now is on the Nooks. The books are even cheaper than in paper, just gotta get past the $250 for the nook lol. As for books, if anyone is interested in American History I would suggest the Timeline-191 series by Harry Turtledove. The first book is called "How Few Remain" Turtledove recreates American history as if the confederacy wins the civil war and remains a separate nation from the union. His first book is of a second civil war but continues with other books to WWI through WWII. Its an 11 book series, and I gotta say the man did he research.

NOOK - More than 2 million books, download wirelessly in seconds - Barnes*&*Noble

I have a nook myself, pretty much the same as a kindle.

I just got done reading "With the Old Breed" by E.B. Sledge. A very good, well written, 1st person account of the WWII Marine assaults of Pelilu and Okinawa. Awesome book. Sledge doesn't hold back either. He describes all the sights and smells of war on a very small 100 degree island. Anyone who has any doubts as to why the U.S. dropped the A-bomb needs to read this book.

I think the Kindle stays charged for well over a month with daily use. They are under $100 now as well. I don't have one, but bought my parents one as a gift the other day. It was actually a lot more slick than I thought it would be. The screen is amazing for reading purposes. You can easily read it during high noon in the sun. I wouldn't mind getting one myself.

I love my Kindle. They just dropped the price down to $79. Now they also have the Kindle Fire. Battery life is about 8 hours probably not glare free but it is promising.

There is something I want to get off my chest. It's about that summer, when you went away to community college. I got an offer to do Playgirl Magazine, and I did it. I did a full spread for Playgirl Magazine. I mean spread man, I pulled my butt apart and stuff. I was totally nude. it was weird, I... I mean you probably didn't hear about it because I went under the name of Mike Honcho. But I just wanted you to know that. If you can hear me, if it got into your brain somehow. That I spread my buttcheeks as Mike Honcho.

I was in the cab on the 10th of this month. I had my kindle with me in the backseat. Sat it down in between myself and the other guy sharing the backseat who happens to be built like a linebacker. He put his hand down on my kindle unbeknownst to me and shifted around. We both heard the pop and we both looked at each other. LOL. Yes it killed my kindle. Nothing visibly at all wrong just would not open up so I could read. I was not pissed or anything because I have read that Amazon customer service was excellent. Before I even got out of the cab I had Amazon customer support on the line. They answered very quickly and I told them my problem. I tried a few troubleshooting methods they offered when I got home. That didn't work so I called them again and informed them that I was still having issues. 5 minutes into the call the gal says she has overnighted a new kindle. I received it on the 12th. Less then 48 hours from the time I called and it came along with a pre addressed mailing label to send the broken one back.

            Absolutely amazing customer support!!

You don't find that everyday. Glad it was corrected.

I have the Kindle with keyboard. When I bought it was $139 now due to the release of the new kindles it's down to $99. I'm going to buy the Kindle Fire but I'll wait until sometime after November 15. If you just want a reader with no frills and no color then get the Kindle 3. Battery life lasts a month or more without charging. Out of all my devices I love it the best but then again I've been putting off reading for a long time but I'm back into the swing of it. I think this Kindle Fire will be a huge hit.

I got Nook Color and I love it....I reckon the new Kindle Fire might be worthy, I dunno, but it seems a wee bit small.

Went for the Nook Color and very fond of it. Chose that one so that I could unlock it and install other versions of the Android OS turning into essentially a small tablet. The NC boots first from it's expansion SD card (if possible) and then from the internal memory making it fairly easy to fiddle with. Still working on finding the OS that does everything I need but having fun trying...

The wife bought me one of the cheap (read: ad-based) Kindles. Cool thing about it is that if you keep off the wi-fi, it runs out of ads and you don't have to look st them. Just a screen begging you to go back online to download more. I think not.
                      It's great.

Leaning towards a Kindle Fire or the Kindle Touch and did a quick search and found this thread. I also carry a laptop for AFHT.

The Touch (wi-fi) is $99 while the Touch with "free 3G and wi-fi" is $149. Where does the 3G come from? Verizon? I really don't think I need 3G, have wi-fi at the house and AFHT.

Is the Fire worth it at $199 over the Touch at $99?

                            Backlit screens give me headaches...

I have an original nook, and I'm dreading the day I have to replace it. It is the perfect size for me and the buttons are in just the right place.
