That's what I use too. I haven't missed the weight of my laptop at all since I've started carrying the tablet.

Just remember that you're sacrificing computer power for size. I've got a tablet and a netbook that I alternate taking with me. I find the tablet significantly slower while trying to surf anything flash enabled, especially porn tube sites. The netbook on the other hand with a couple gigs of RAM smoothly shows my online porn choices with no lag or stutter.

I've got a newer Samsung tablet, and while I'm fairly happy with it, anything with flash just really bogs it down.

I bought a $200 net book with HDMI out that rides exclusively in my grip.

I'll just throw this out there since you're wanting something to throw in your grip. I've been to one of the Goodwill stores here & they have a Goodwill store that doesn't do anything except refurbish & sell computers. I'll bet they have 2 tandem dump truck loads of PCs in the back. They also sell laptops & components (cards, monitors, printers, whatever) too. And it's dirt cheap. I recently bought a desktop from them for $150. 4gigs of Ram, 500GB drive, Intel Duo Core 2, gigabit, Winders 7 Pro. Haven't used it much, & it isn't the latest cutting edge thing, but it's more than enough for what I need.

Point about the laptops is if you don't need something super cutting edge, maybe check them out. You could get a decent laptop for super cheap. Most of the hotel internets we stay at suck anyway, so anything super fast is pretty pointless in my opinion. All I mainly do is surf a little & do email at the AFHT.

Just a thought. Let us know what you end up getting & how it works for you Vito.

While I can appreciate a tablet I much prefer my laptops. I type way too much for that onscreen keyboard and my hands cramp up using it. Not to mention that my hands are always touching the wrong side button and either screwing with the volume or blacking the screen.

I am also tired of everything getting smaller and lighter. My hands, especially when they are dry, HATE small light things that require a button that requires more force than the object weighs. The same goes for the Bluray on my dresser. I cannot just go up to it and press the power button without holding the back of it. Whikle we are at it..... WHY THE FUCK don't they make glow in the dark remotes??? It drives me nuts to have to get up and turn on a light to pause.

Gotta agree with BOK. I type way too fast for a tablet's on screen keyboard. And the damned on screen keyboards take up 1/2 the screen when you're trying to type; sometimes you can't see what the hell you're typing. (Though I guess the MS Surface thing comes with a keyboard & I know you can purchase one for the ipads.) Still, I prefer to have a purpose built keyboard on a laptop. It is more versatile & responsive.

If you haven't used a tablet, heads up: not all of the typical keys are shown on screen. If your RR crew call stuff uses Function keys like ours does, you'll have to rely on a simulated "pad" of tiny function keys on screen and keep switching to numeric keys for field input. It isn't the greatest & I wouldn't want that to be my only method of checking on things in the RR computer. It's OK for very brief sessions, but gets annoying rather quickly.

I just started looking but I did see a tablet with a keyboard for 100$. on Wallyworlds website. Seemed to good to be true. My daughter is looking 4 me also. She is much more informed than I about these things. Thank God.

It comes down to a few simple things....

Just for Internet? Any will do
Do you want to lay down and use it? Tablet
Do you want a full sized and functional keyboard? Laptop
Do you like having something of decent size? Laptop
Do you have large hands? Laptop

I can't check our ticketing system via my tablet, locks up the web browser every time. Mainframe is slightly tolerable, but like you said, without the function keys it gets old quick.

My step-dad has one of the Logitech Universal Remote 650 that has a color screen & back-lighting. (Back-lighting turns on when you move the remote.) He uses it to control his home theater. It's pretty bad-ass. Those Harmony remote start at around $79 (mfgr retail,) but if you have a lot of stuff to control/ complex set up, it's the bomb!

Then you advance to one of these... I've got two, this model and an older one and I love them. I can record macro's, control my TV via radio vs IR which is great since you don't have to aim the remote at the TV or have all your gear out in the open.
