HOW TO: Embedding images into your posts
Some of you maybe new to forums, and how to accomplish certain things. I'll go over how to put an image into your post, not as an attachment.

First, you have to copy the image location, and it's as simple as right clicking your mouse when the pointer is over the image. The first will cover what to do if you use Internet Explorer, the second is if you use Fire Fox (my preferred internet browser).

IE - right click over the image and select "properties" from the menu.

Now, a new window will open and you can double click on the address to highlight all of it, then right click again, and select "copy". Now the address is saved into memory.

FireFox is a whole lot easier to use. All you do is right click over the image, and select "copy image location". One simple step, and the address is now in memory.

When you are creating a new post, or you are replying, you can click on the image icon in the text editing menu bar, which is circled in red...

Once you click on the "insert image" icon, a small window will pop-up. All you have to do is paste (right click and select "paste") the image location (web address/URL) into this window and click OK.

Once you click OK, the link to the image will be put into your post.

Now just add your text, or other pictures, and click "Submit Reply" and you are all done.

One thing to keep in mind, the link must be to a picture and not a web page. It should end with .jpg or .gif otherwise it will not work.

It's a pretty simple process once you are aware of it. Now, if the image you want to put into a post is one your PC, you have to either upload it to the gallery (motorcycle related images only) or just use the attachment feature.

If you have any questions, just ask here. Also, feel free to try putting an image in this thread, for practice.

Thanks Gandy, that was very helpful. Could you expand on that with info on how to post pictures or video we get in e-mails?

First off, you need to open an account with Photobucket (for pics) and YouTube (for videos). When you get a pic or video in your emails you want to save....right click on that attachment and save it in a folder of your choice on your "puter..!! Then you go to that new account you just set up with Photobucket, or YouTube and download THAT file to an album you've created. Then a code will be generated for that pic or video, you copy and paste that code and place it in your post to YL..!! It's really very simple.....your basic internet stuff.!!!

the problem I have is that a lot of times Photobucket can't open the emails because of an invalid extension.you have it saved to files like anything else, but Pbucket can't open it.

Not sure what you mean, Hog, and I am no expert, having only done this a couple times, but what I do is right click on the picture in the e-mail and click on 'save as". Give it a name and it will go to your My Pictures folder. Then go to photobucket and download the file from your My Pictures folder.

I do that & then I get the message "this file does not have a valid image extension" [jpg, gif, etc.]

Under the place where you type in the file name, there is a box to select the file extension.
              Mine is set to .jpg.

I don't have that option. I'm trying to send my emails to photobucket now & retrieve them there. I sent one, but damned if I can find it.

                  Whoops!

Your file did not successfully upload into your Photobucket account. Some common causes for this may be the following.

-Photobucket storage capacity is over the limit (1 GB for Free/10 GB for Pro).
-The album that you attempted to upload your file into is over the 2500 image per album limit.
-The type of file that you tried to upload does not have a valid extension.
-You have entered an invalid album email address for your account.

-You can check your allotted storage space from your 'account options.'
-Valid image extensions are gif, jpg, jpeg, png and bmp.
-Valid video extensions are **3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, 3p, asf, avi, divx, dv, dvx, flv, moov, mov, mp4, mpeg4, mpg4, mpe, mpeg, mpg, qt, wmv, xvid**
-You can view your album email address from the 'mobile phone' tab of your upload panel.

**Some videos may not upload properly due to the way they were encoded. If you are receiving this email as a result of a failed video upload, the file will most likely not be able to be uploaded to Photobucket.

You DON'T send the entire email to PB..!!! If there's a pic file you want to save, right click on the pic......save it to a folder, then....in PB, you download that file to PB...!!! What browser are you using...as in Netscape, Foxfire...etc.??

Advising people to hotlink from other websites is not cool...

Theft of bandwidth... Somebody was hotlinking macros that I had hosted on my server, so I changed them all to some gay porn... Made damn sure it was NSFW.

When you hotlink an image from somebody elses server that they pay for, the image shows up here but it puts an increased load on their server. If they have a small hosting package then you might be incurring them real fees with repeated hits to their server over and over again to grab that image instead of copying it and posting it here.

Is there any etiquette to hotlinking images from third parties? | Ask Metafilter

PLEASE save yourself and anyone who might view the image the hassle and just host whatever you want to display on Photobucket instead of hotlinking images.

As I said... When I start getting tons of hits for one image only and nothing else, I change the image, and put raunchy porn in its place.
