Default GC/LC signed 5 side letters in reference to new HOS law

He signed 5 side letters without any input from us paying union members. To sum it up, if we work the 6 or 7 straight days, we DON'T get any compensation for the mandatory days off. When we are "rested" coming off the mandatory days off, we go first out on the board. Personally, I'd rather go last out.

I'd rather just let it play out then sign away any compensation. The union(us) didn't get anything in return.

You were a little cryptic here. When you say they signed away your compensation, are you referring to a reduction in extra board guarantee pay or what?

Rico

I'm recalling this from memory, but it didn't say anything about a reduction in pay. But, if your off for two days and not available for call, I can only bet they are going to take away 16 hours(8 hours X 2 days).

Kind of difficult for anyone to comment on talk of side letters without a posted copy of them.

There should be a deal where instead of loosing guarantee you can trade in your scheduled rest days when you have to take mandatory days. This might be made voluntary so that you could keep your regular day or days, and accept the reduction for that half. As we have an option on my pool to turn off rest days, I have done so, until I see what is going to happen HOS law wise. (Not to mention that I haven't worked for three months and don't want to be missing trips just yet!)

It doesn't matter anyway. It's just like everything else the government is doing. They take away things, tax us more more more hell just think how much tax you pay just on your vehicle. You pay tax when you buy the car, then you have license tax and inspection tax. You pay tax on the car you bought every year you own it even after paying the first tax. They take away our rights and what do we do? Nothing.

We close the door to our houses and do nothing. Sitting in the air conditioning comfortable with our TV while our companies take advantage of us. Our government takes advantage of us. America will not be great again until it is brought to it's knees. Which we came very close to here recently and I don't know if we're out of the woods yet.

Hell how many people do you know who could survive for a week if the grocery store shut down? How many people do you know who have ever lived off the land? Not many huh? The government and our companies know this. We'll not strike or revolt.... we're too comfortable with our PS3s and Iphones.

Basically we're content on venting in threads like this or random bitching at the yard office which goes nowhere. The local chairman telling you "they can do that" and how about attendance at union meetings? I've wanted to go, but I haven't. It's not stressed. Nobody wants to go to a union meeting until the big stuff goes down. Well how about now? Is this the big stuff? Not really I guess. I haven't heard anything from anyone where I work about this HOS thing effecting our guarantee. No calls from anyone, no letters from the local posted on the wall.

So what do we do? Nothing I guess.
