The problem I have is that I'm not really hurting for money (I currently have about a ten month reserve....not counting unemployment) and I would like to return to work for the railroad. Even with all of the B.S. with the railroad I actually really enjoyed the job, the people there and the lifestyle. The other problem is that the job only pays about 45k a year so I'm going backwards. Even with my disability money from the V.A. I still make less than conductor's guarantee. There is a chance of upward mobility in the job and I would get to help my fellow disabled vets, so I guess the cut in pay is offset with job satisfaction. I just feel bad taking a job that I really don't need when there are others out there who could really use it. I am a crazy for thinking about turning it down?

now is not the time to pass up a good job. as far as going backward it seems every job in the united states is going backward. i graduated highschool in 1993 and went to work as an unskilled laborer for a construction company making $8.00 an hr with benefits. today if a job pays $8.00 and hour with benefits 1000 people show up to apply. what a fucking joke that was 17 years ago. hell i made $10.50 an hr part time 20-25 hrs per week with benefits/vacation/pld in 1995 working for UPS. you put alot of time in on the railroad to make the money you do. and if you are a road man you put alot of unpaid hotel time in that needs to be considered too. mon-fri 8-4 with hour lunch and ducking out early like the rest of the govt workers means you will be working for about 15 hours a week for that $35GRAND. sign me up......
