Default Most trainmen called back due to HOS

in 2009,For the first time in decades, the CP-Soo furloughed massive amount of employees since the early 1980's. The good new is, the majority of the employees are now returning to work in prep for the HOS. A lot of jobs in Minneapolis/ St. Paul have been add to yard trains (Change off jobs, crews change hands) so yard crews can yard road trains, so road crew don't work up to the nuts, and wind up with limbo time. We also have "daily mark", which yard guys will work the afternoons, etc... and make a bed room turn for days the following day. This will not be allowed com the 16Th of July. It looks like the CP is preparing for the new laws early.

I just heard that they are about to recall about 100 in Houston to be ready for The HOS on the 16th.

If SOO daily mark is similar to ours on the BN, they have yard jobs on 3 shifts. You bid each day according to seniority for a foreman or helper position. Of course the best seniority gets the best jobs, and if all the jobs don't fill, the remainder goes to the extra board.

Hmmm, we have three shifts as well, plus a relief job. But the foreman and switchman are regularly assigned, and of course seniority applies as with any job. The yard extra list fills day to day vacancies. (interesting twist, if the foreman is marked off, the switchman will be stepped up and the extra list will fill the switchman's job.) There is a page on our mainframes where daily marks can be done, we just don't do them in our terminal or any on our division that I am aware of.

Ours is similar. The daily mark ONLY applies to NP (Former Northern Pacific) jobs. The GN side has regular assigned employees. Our terminal is split GN/NP after the merger in 1970. We were all GN until then, but that is WAY before my time!

And, yet again, the NS will self-destruct. They are actually still laying people off on the Lake Division, and GM reopens next week. A couple of trains are going to be put back on, and they have been holding trains daily for weeks account no men. They are in no way preparing for the 16th, How many ways can you say STUPID?
