Screw that. I love to hear you guys bitch.
I went through this 3 times! And all of them worse then current. I learned to live with it, I suggest you do the same. In other words, BITE IT! another newbie wanting seniority. Why should I retire if I am still healthy, still like going to work, still make good money? Why should I retire just to give you work? Perhaps the railroad over hired and you aren't needed? |

wow throttle I really hate you now lol. Your really a brothers keeper. your right u have every right. but just think of this. You have plenty of money in ur bank im sure. Us new guys have average 1300 in 2 weeks with familys of 3 children when you all u have is ur grandbabys, so we have no chance of saving up for things like this. An we are going to go thru what you did and Im doing it right now with 3 kids and 615 every two weeks and me being new I didnt know about saving up ( i do now though) so we are (biting it) plus last year I didnt have RR Unemployment. the railroad didnt over hire. when things are rolling we dont have enough where I am. I dont really hate you but man It would help me and my family alot.

Conductor, sorry, you dont even have a clue.
I had 4 kids the first time I was cut off. The second time I had 2 kids in college and 1 at home, the other has just hired on the railroad and got cut himself, he moved back in. Then I had my railroad tore up and had to move, sell what I owned and move! Start anew and work my way back up. I had to repay many debts I owed, and worked hard. I had to even pick up and protect my seniority in order to stay working, while I had a family. So, don't tell me anything about not understanding. You think when it happened to me I had money? Don't think I don't have compassion, I do. But I learned long ago nothing on the railroad is certain and the current generation of railroaders have been spoiled! |

Most of these 30/60 guys are probably losing money to come to work. GO! GO! GO! Find a hobby or go work on some scab short line or tourist railroad. Collect some of that pension before you croak in the seat.

Or as Denver would say, "why don't you leave, the railroad doesn't need ya!"
Sometimes I wonder how true that is. Specific to the locations they over hired. |

I guess throttle misses the point. It is'nt about seniority, it's about making a living. I talk to many retired employees (one in particular who comes to all of our local union meetings) who said retiring was the "best thing that has happened to them in a long time!" I am not bitching for my own gain(i stand for regular jobs in the yard and road) but i do have friends on the xtra board who are starving. I guess i can't understand why someone would want to continue a career here when they can retire and enjoy the rest of their days doing what they want. That is the brass ring we all work for is'nt it? Anyway throttle, if riding up and down these rails till the good lord takes you off the roster is what you want, then i wish all the best my friend. As for me, 30 and i'm out.

Some listen, some don't. Some tell you to go get fucked, they will do as they see fit. It happens over, and over, and over again. As to the other aspect of this, I will be the first one to say I don't understand why someone would stay out here past retirement age. My dad did it under the pretense of doing as he pleased and thumbing his nose at officials. He said he was having fun and it was certainly entertaining to watch. After he retired, he stated he wished he had done it sooner. So where as I don't get it, I will also be the first one to defend anybody that wants to stay even if it's costing me in the short term. They earned the right if that's really what they want to do. Period. Rico |
