Cold on the engines

Well guys, it didnt take the heartless NS long to order a crew to take an engine without heat. Seems that a crew in the Peru to Bellevue pool were ordered by a Lake Div. chief or asst. chief to take their train even though their leader did not have operable heat. This is, of course, a FRA violation and it has been reported to the BLE&T GC and I am certain that it will work it's way up the ladder to the FRA as well. Oh, the chief or asst. was Lisa Ramierez,sp....

Was being the operative word. She probably won't have that job anymore when they get done with her.

Kudos to the brothers and sisters who pushed it. This is what needs to happen every time they do something of this nature.

One can only hope that is the case. She did go the chiefs office from craft so she does have tools to fall back on. I guess she forgot what it is like to be on those engines for hours on end.

We all need to start doing our jobs and shopping pieces of crap like this.

I think if it were me I would have marked off sick upon arriving at Bellevue or, better yet, gone to the hospital complaining of exposure. Either way my ride home would have been on a 480 something or another.

I'm not saying that the carrier should forego FRA regulations or rules but why should we fault them so completely for one mistake? Have we not all made mistakes? It makes no sense to me how lying about being sick does anything but hurt your paycheck and more importantly, your reputation. You all should grow up. . .
I don't call it whining when a crew is asked to take an engine without heat. I don't think pinlifter is being 100% serious about his comment. He isn't dumb enough to actually do something like that. He is just saying that if the carriers are doing something so stupid as asking us to take engines without heat, then they deserve for crews to come down with illnesses that cost them out the ass. It is bad enough out here that we shouldn't have to put up with taking equipment that the carriers dont give a shit about. A little preventative maintanence goes a long way. The railroad has this "if it's broke don't fix it attitude" and it is up to us to change that attitude, at any cost. Now do ya get it?

Sapper, it looks like to me your a supervisor in disguise. I would like to see your sorry ass sitting on a cold engine for 200 miles, and not bitch about it. Hell, lets stop whining about everything and do away with the union so my seven kids can work alongside me 23 hours a day for $10 bucks a day because we love our job so much and its so vital to national security, I have one answer for you SCAB...., why don't you grow up and get a reality check.....

So was it the chief or the assistant? Since you said two different positions could it have been someone else or your positive it was her but you dont know what job she was working? Im not sure if she works the Chief job or not but im sure if she told someone to take the engine then someone else told her to do it. Being a contract employee and a former engineer on the same division im positive she would know how this should have been handled. Before anyone starts burning her at the stake maybe they should find out where or how she come up with that dicision. Im sure if anyone on here had an FRA violation they wouldnt want there name plastered all over this board.

this is a blatant FRA violation, pure & simple. whoever made the decision needs to have their ass on the carpet...if we let them get by with this, what's next? ordering you to violate the hours of service? [which I have had happen to me] & the dispatcher got his ass fired for it....I don't want to see anyone lose their job, but you have to draw the line somewhere.
