Remote Control Is a Failure for Railroads -- Seeking Alpha

Can everybody see this shit except the people in the Ivory Towers?
He's a little off in some of his facts and figures, but for the most part nails it on the head.........They spend more money trying to get rid of us when it would be in EVERYBODY's best interest to keep things like they are.

AMENT, its the way of all industry not just the railroads.
Besides, since before I hired out, technology has outpaced our jobs by a long shot.
From full crews, all the way down to the reduction to 2 men in the cab and now RCO.

I hate to say this, but I'm sure there is a proper way to implement RCO, they just haven't figured it out. Of course, when you have idiots on the top, you think they could get it right?

I don't know, the older I get, the more I see, the worse my view is on this stuff.
Jaded in fact, if you will.

I see the possibility, but I see the reality as well. Facing the fact of a single craft is the ultimate goal of the carriers!

I wish they would realize this before they turn Elkhart upside down with these things next month, Even with car counts down that place is going to screech to a grinding halt.

I think the railroads would have a difficult time explaining to the stockholders why they invested millions of dollars in a new technolgy only to walk away from it cause it didn't save the company what it thought it would save. They're in it for the long haul. No matter what we say on here or even what some skeptics are saying, the carriers are committed. That don't want to lose face especially with the unions. The ole "we told you so".

Maybe we, employee stockholders, need to go to the next stockholder meetings and ask if management can tell or show us just how much the implementation of remotes has actually saved the company or how much more efficient they truly are.

Well if the boys running them do it by the book it will be a mexican standoff in a matter of days and the officals won't have a clue as to why.....all they know is they are "suppose to work better than the other way"......they have never and never will admit they were wrong.......

Everyone that has worked with an RCO knows that you can get twice as much, (if not more) , done with an engineer. Lets do the math. Sure, I agree with throttle, there are certain areas where the RCO might, I said might, work well, but if you have to spot the customer, get the train out on time, switch the yard, or do any MUST DO work, an engineer and conductor are your best bet. I wish NS could see that. I wish they would "invest" more in their "most valuable asset", us.
