Railroad Makes More Lakeland History
<p>"In the early days," wrote Steve Rajtar in "A Guide to Historic Lakeland, Florida" , "downtown Lakeland centered around the railroad, which crosses Kentucky Avenue approximately two blocks north of Main Street." The railroad - then known as the South Florida Railroad - was great stuff when it first came through Polk County in the 1880s.</p>
