I was refering to the adults not taking the responsibility of judgement and not lazily putting everything under a blanket rule.

There was a time when the teacher would just take the knife and call the parent to come get it. And little Johnny got his lessons that day.

Schools are in trouble anyways with the hoops they make us jump through...

You legally must send your kids to school, but not if they are sick. Dont want to spread a sickness. I agree. However, if you do the reponsible thing and keep your kid home when they are sick, regardless of the kids grades, you get a nice letter from the local DA calling you irresponsible for NOT sending them to school.

You MUST send them to school, but when your child's first grade teacher dont do her job and teach your child or even communicate with the parent, YOU then have to teach the child at home. I dont mean the basic help that all parents should do. I mean actually teah the child.

my kids travel during the school year for sports and no kids in my state can miss more than 10 days during the school year or they haul your ass into court under the becca bill.

once they hit high school. we hit around 9 days and receive a threatening letter, weve never gone over.. but i make them go sick for half the day if were down to the 9th day.

one of our lovely schools in my district is laden with mold and rodents, while our school board leaders are in a brand new nice facility.. i say throw their asses in the dump.,,, but my point is the mold was making one kid i know very sick.. the doctors even declared he was allergic to the mold and that was the problem ... he missed over the amount of days and failed all his classes in 9th grade.. couldn't make anything up from home or nothing.. Had to redo the grade for 18 days missed out of the year.

Absolutely no common sense here!

Our schools, nationwide, have become virtual prisons. All the schools around here are surrounded by steel fencing and routinely have lock down drills. School administrators are paranoid. Teachers are concerned with students passing the minimal skills testing by just teaching the test. Kids aren't challenged to do their best, just encouraged enough to barely get by.

All this "security" the result of the Columbine High School event wherein the parents of the perpertrators had no idea what their children were doing, and simply ignored them for the most part.

..

I did not even know we still had 'reform schools" On a side note the high school I went to a hundred years ago was not great then. Now once in a while they have "lock downs" because of the violence. Some high school kids need a boot up the old backside.

I'll second that, and the purpose of schools is to educate our children in academic courses, not to promote athletic endeavors.

and also to teach disicipline to enable them to enter society as adults
