AS long as I attended a union meeting today I hear we had a trainman (not here in Lincoln thank god) called the safety hotline and turn in the engineer for talking on the cellphone...

People get the fuck off the phones PERIOD. :angryfire:

And you narks who are so afraid for your job that your running scared, quit fucking up and so you wouldn't be on level S and have to worry so much about the other guy...TALK to your union, talk to their union, talk to them but either way DO NOT use the safety hotline...UNLESS its an emergency that needs remedied asap...Pull the air get the fuck off the train if its so unsafe you have to call the safety hotline...But Don't go around someones back and stab em....STOP the situation now if its that unsafe, or wait until you are back at the terminal and call your local chairman or representative...:fingersx:

1) Look at the BLET's great success in this last election, what was it 25% of the members even mailed in a ballot. WOWOWOWOWOW great success there people.....That means 75% were so fricken lazy they couldn't even open an envelop, check a box and put it back in an envelop and re mail it BEFORE they even left the post office, that would a cost em an extra minute or two at most.
2) Look at your union meetings - look around you when you sit there and see just who is there and who took time out of there busy day and life to take the time to show solidarity and take care of the other 95% who didn't show..Actually in our division its more like 99% that won't show....Yet we go to work and we hear how our unions SUCK because they are so weak.
3) Why is it we can all bitch about how bad our unions suck, how weak our unions are, and how they do NOTHING for us. The unions only for the old unless its lost then its the new guy.

Well guys what, we are all or most of us here on this forum are UNION employees, and I am just as guilty as the next guy for not showing up and voicing my opinions, but at least I do take the time to vote. One of our safety / mobilization guys made a point today...The carriers all know we are weak, we don't stand together on anything, Its brother against brother here, UTU against BLET, post85 against pre85..its a feeding frenzy for the carriers.

People lets ALL try to adapt to new ways and at least talk to each other, lets bring everyone attention that we are UNION that we should be a union...Because people if the union sucks, that means you suck because YOU ARE THE UNION.

Rant over....

Tired of reading about 25% being a huge majority for an election...Pitiful, just pitiful:sigh:.

This may be posted in the wrong place. If so, please move it.

Some folks know I had an unfortunate event with a rebel appendix back in February. I lost the entire month and several days more. Of course I was in contact with both UTU and BLET folks, as well as company people in Jacksonville and locally.

Eventually I was cleared and all necessary BS completed to return to work. The medical part was a breeze, but I thought I might have to re-qualify on physical characteristics before I would be allowed to return to work. Had I known, I would have insisted upon the doctor signing off in 27 days rather than 33 days as he did. Well, water under the bridge.

It wasn't until the last monthly newsletter from the union that I was made aware of the RRB sickness benefit, which would have allowed me to have saved for later use some of my vacation or personal leave days.

Are the Company and Union people unaware of the existence of this benefit? Is it some kind of inside secret you get to know about only after 20 years service or something?

I wrote RRB an e-mail outlining the story and asking whether I might still be able to get something, but I don't hold out much hope.

Strange...all the folks on here and all the time I spent during my recovery period goofing around on Yard Limits and not a soul could be bothered to mention the availability of up to $66 a day...money already set aside for us...it's not like welfare or food stamps, but more like unemployment when you aren't able to work. It ain't much, but sure would have helped at the time.

Anyone else know of someone off sick or injured...let them know. There are some hoops to jump through, but it could make a difference in someone's life.

I might not have had to draw out of the retirement savings either.

I may be confused but the last time I checked America is a CAPITALIST country and NO where does it say that everyone is entitled to be treated EQUALLY. We are all treated FAIRLY NOT EQUALLY.

It sounds like some of us want to be in a COMMUNIST country? I could NOT care less how much any management of any company makes, good for them. I want to be treated on my own merits! If I can convince the company to pay me millions then GOOD FOR ME!

What is wrong with the crazies that are jealous of managements money? I don't know

I have done some digging around with this and I have found out some important info.

For starters you can draw from RRB Sickness and Short Term. There is a max of $696/week you can draw or 67% of your weekly earnings.

To draw short term you would also have to be off more then 30 days, so in other words if you're off only 21 days you would not receive short term disability but if you were sick or injured and were off for an extended period say like 6 months you would start receiving a weekly check after 30 days from then on out and up to 52 weeks max. So the most important part is that if you're not sure how long you will be off you should put in for it anyways. That way the paperwork will already be started and if your time off exceeds 30 days you will then start receiving payments.

Here is a link with info:

Wow, congratulations you did it once again, Thank you for voting and participating in your Union, I hope the numbers go up at election time.. the rank and file have spoken.

August 30, 2010: By an overwhelming vote of 6,305 to 2,452, members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) in the Teamsters have saved the Right to Vote for their top officers.
BLET members won the Right to Vote in 2006, by a smaller margin and lower turnout.
That was before three of the union’s top officers left in disgrace for misusing tens of thousands of dollars of union funds, double-dipping on expenses, and soliciting a $20,000 bribe from an attorney.
Members Organize
In December, officials from Divisions 13, 98, 155, and 236 started circulating petitions to take away the Right to Vote, and the issue was put to a referendum vote. Behind the scenes, top BLET officers campaigned hard to take away members’ democratic rights.
Right away, rank-and-file members and local officers mobilized to protect their rights.
“The Right to Vote gives us the tools to hold our leaders accountable, punish officers who violate our trust, and root out corruption from our union,” said Hugh Sawyer, President of BLET Division 316 and a member of TDU’s Steering Committee, in a letter that was mailed to all BLET members.
“Why should the members ever give up that right?”
First Direct Election in Full Swing
Now the BLET’s first-ever one-member, one-vote election for top officers is moving ahead in full swing.
Tom Brennan, a local chairman and candidate for BLET President, supported the Right to Vote vocally from the beginning.
The incumbent candidate for president, Dennis Pierce, refused to come out publicly for or against the Right to Vote. Privately he worked to pass the initiative and take away members’ Right to Vote.
Sore Losers Prepare for Round Three?
The members have spoken—they want the Right to Vote.
But the officials of Division 98 have already submitted a resolution to the union convention that would strip members of the Right to Vote. Their resolution could be heading to the convention floor for a vote in October.
Keeping the Right to Vote should be a no-brainer for delegates at the Convention. The members have spoken loud and clear on this issue—twice.
We hope Division 98 officials will do the right thing and withdraw their resolution before the convention even begins.

In a move of stunning hypocrisy, the United Federation of Teachers axed one of its longtime employees -- for trying to unionize the powerful labor...

In a move of stunning hypocrisy, the United Federation of Teachers axed one of its longtime employees -- for trying to unionize the powerful labor organization's own workers, it was charged yesterday.
Jim Callaghan, a veteran writer for the teachers union, told The Post he was booted from his $100,000-a-year job just two months after he informed UFT President Michael Mulgrew that he was trying to unionize some of his co-workers.
"I was fired for trying to start a union at the UFT," said a dumbfounded Callaghan, who worked for the union's newsletter and as a speechwriter for union leaders for the past 13 years.
Callaghan said he personally told Mulgrew on June 9 about his intention to try to organize nonunionized workers at UFT headquarters.
"I told him I want to have the same rights that teachers have," said Callaghan, 63, of Staten Island. "He told me he didn't want that, that he wanted to be able to fire whoever he wanted to."
The UFT has long strenuously resisted city efforts to make it easier for school administrators to fire teachers.
"This is the exact antithesis of what they preach, and Michael Mulgrew is the biggest hypocrite out there," Callaghan fumed.
Callaghan said he's planning to file a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against the UFT for illegally blocking his unionizing effort, and he added he would slap the union with an age-discrimination lawsuit.
A UFT spokesman had little to say about Callaghan's charges.
"We do not comment on personnel matters, but the overwhelming majority of people who work at the UFT are represented by unions," said UFT spokesman Peter Kadushin.
Callaghan said that yesterday morning, he was hauled into a meeting with UFT officials, including CFO David Hickey, and told only that he was being fired from his job and had a half-hour to clear out of the office.
"They gave me no reason, no letter, no cause at all," said Callaghan, who insisted that he has received no reprimands or notices about problems with his work. He noted that he wrote six stories in the most recent newsletter for teachers.
Callaghan said the union-busting bullying continued after he was told he was fired, when UFT leaders called in a detail of six uniformed cops to remove him from his office because he wasn't leaving fast enough.
Callaghan said he decided to unionize the 12 UFT writers after a colleague was fired last year without cause.
"We have no protections and no disciplinary process," he said.
