I have a novel idea about how to avoid foreclosure: pay your damn mortgage.

This is about the most despicable thing I've ever seen. If this woman believes she didn't make the mortgage, then why did she request the papers? Why has she been paying her payments to this point if she wishes to contest the debt? Shameless.

They shouldn't have bought the home in the first place. That's how you live within your means, and that's how you avoid being upside down when markets crash. You buy small. Very small. Under 20% of your take home pay. Or you avoid certain markets altogether.

One thing's for sure........this woman's debt isn't MY responsibility.

Yes, yes, of course one should pay their mortgage. Unfortunately, life can be full of surprises such as serious illness, the death of a spouse, divorce, etc. stc. Don't be so quick to judge other people, you could be in their shoes someday................

I doubt it. I don't think you understand how some people live. Some of us could easily make all our bills on a third of what we make at the railroad or similar jobs. If, however, the extremely implausible were to come about, I sure wouldn't accept someone else's money to pay my way.

Yeah, Coyote. I'm sure. And this really isn't much of an argument.

I just thought I'd ask.........'cause, on the planet I live on, things don't always go as planned. You try and sometimes you fail, nothing shameful about it. We pick ourselves up and move on..........on this planet.

What we're currently seeing is far from isolated incidents where the infrequent homeowner, despite his or her hard work, happens to fail because he or she is the victim of so many factors beyond his or her control. What we're talking about are huge swaths of our nation who insanely overbought, overextended themselves, and generally behaved like twelve-year-olds with a stolen credit card at the mall.

The picture you paint is compelling. It's also wildly inaccurate in trying to depict the root of our current problem.

Yup, that's what processes like bankruptcy and foreclosure are for. So that people so adversely affected are able to start over.

But since you are so concerned, care to tell us how many overextended people to whom you are sending your money directly to keep them in their homes?

and this is where you show that you don't really understand what is going on. our nation is bleeding jobs & homes at an unprecedented rate. we have to stop this or we will enter another Great Depression..it's painful & it sucks to pay for someone else's mistakes, but we have to do it.
