state run education sucks. as mentioned before,it's all fine & dandy till someone runs out of money, then the kids suffer. rich states don't have a problem.why don't we try to offer the same level of education everywhere? it costs an arm & a leg now to go to college when it used to be you could work your way through college with a part time job.that is not the fault of the government.schools have proven they are more interested in making money than educating people.

It's funny to watch Fox Noise's Niel Caputo do his ad for the teabag party....he says "WE (Fox Noise) covered the Miliion Man March".....sounds good, except for the fact that the Million Man March took place a year before Fox Noise started.......more credible reporting from Fox Noise.....

It is interesting you say this since testing indicates that the overall education of students has declined since the DOEd was created. As for college, why is it so expensive? Ask Harvard that has an endowment fund so huge it could pay for all its students to attend there every year for approximately 100 years but yet all they do is continue to build on it. Why? College is expensive because it is big business and continuing to throw money at them is not going to solve this.

I was wrong as scores have declined since 1972, not 1979 and only in the last 10 to 12 years have we even started to rise and we are still not back to where we were in 1972. Goes to the point even more. Scores were better before DOEd. Why worse now after throwing trillions more at the department while moving control away from the parents and localities to DC. I can tell you. Because no bureaucrat in DC can tell any parent or citizen of a state how better to educate their children.

Anyone who has any experience at all dealing in govt, can quickly point out, on city, county and state levels, there are many many wastes of tax payer money. Alot of it comes from "good ol boy" business.
If the city and states get moving and agresively put an end to waste, there will be that much less reliablility on fed tax dollars.
It would take me about ONE day to observe a local govt and find ways to cut their budgets by 10 - 15%. Anyoen can do it.
Now if it is that easy on a local level, you cannot thell me someone is not smart enough to do this on a national level.

I agree with that 100%. I know that in Mississippi it has turned into "no administrator Left Behind". Screw the kids.
I am personally sick and damn tired of hearing that to fix education we need to spend MORE moeny on it. FIRST, we need to see where the money goes. Second, there are some shcool districs that you could throw the entire fed budget at and they still will lag behind.
Most responsibility lies at the feet of the parent.
However, I have seen teachers who did not know the 3rd grade material well enough to be teaching it, but the shcool board claimed their hands were tied due to the unions. (example: My sister brought home a paper where she missed the question of how many states are in the US. She marked 50. The teacher, however, claimed to my mother that Guam and Peurto Rico were now states. My mother and the principle could not make her change her mind and the principle ended up taking the side of the teacher. Wonder how much money would have fixed stupid in this case?

Politics again at its best. Standarized tests. Some claim it to be racially biased. Fucking sad when a whole group wants to be taken seariously while screaming that they arent as smart as other groups.
