All Beatty had to do was ask, and none of this would have happened.
And no, they would not have said no, as the Beattyites all believe.
PT even asked Beatty to ask, but he refused.
Why?
That is obvious, his deal with the TCRC!

The UTU International had a deal... to go to the Sheetmetal Workers. The first I heard of it myself was when the UTU International sent an expensive, glittery promo to me in the mail. I voted against it, and I understand the terms as represented by PT were different enough to the reality that some Americans are now in doubt.
At least one less Canadian rep for Canadians. I think there might have been a Canadian rep who wanted a VP job in the new SMART Union.

The arbiter ruled that under Canadian law, Rex Beatty followed the wording of the constitution.
He called the strike. PT broke it.

FYI -the hourly rate was not on the table at the time of the ill advised decision to go on strike.

cnese will become famous soon enough
Not only did the UTU try to take its membership to the Sheetmetal workers, it wanted to take its Canadian membership to the USWA.

And then we singned TCRC cards.

The CIRB ordered a run-off vote. Imagine that; the membership gets to decide what union will represent them! I realize that the UTU will have a hard time with this, as the mere notion of a free vote amongst its own membership seems a foreign concept to them. Better to have the International President do what is 'best for the membership' and install his own lackeys over the membership's objections.

Look who's installing his own lackeys!!!
That moron Garth Bates, you know the current VP/Leg.Director,
has just "appointed"
all of Beattys friends to positions in Canada!
Knowing we are headed to the TCRC, it's payout time for the sheep who were promised jobs by Rex.
Bates puts them in place, and sends the deal to the TCRC.
good scam, but hey, you all think it's okay to pay off Truckers, just not UTU.
Want to bet our dues hit $200.00 with in the year to pay for these patronage positions?

I'm not betting on anything. Rex will have to stand for election. Put your name on the ballot if you can do a better job. Seriously, I'd even nominate you if I could without compromising my anominity.

Secord got appointed... "Special Consultant to the Prez of the UTU."

The hourly rate was mentioned in the negotiations.

I believe I mentioned that because you are smart, it doesn't mean other people are stupid... usually it means we are not speaking the same language the same way,

Some disclosure here, since I've been asked. Actually, dues are going to be $507.46 a month and the odd 'special assessment', just to make you UTU supporters feel at home. Feel better now that you know?

What the hell, I can pick figures out of thin air, too. I got my desire to pull numbers out of thin air from reading Thompson's Valentines' Day book from last year that he called a 'letter to the Canadian membership'. And I'm still trying to use his 'hide the sausage' quote somewhere in polite conversation.

And no, I haven't been appointed to, or asked to be appointed to, anything with the TCRC yet. Should I ask Rex?
