Default Working off Furlough Board in Alliance, Ne.

I was just looking at the furlough board in Alliance, Ne, which is my home terminal, where I am furloughed at. I counted 9 people that worked off the furlough board durning Memorial Day Weekend. We will never be recalled at this rate. The carrier can just use board 7 however they feel and these people will keep answering their phone. I would say unless they needed the insurance why answere the phone? These people are idiots if and when they ever want to go back to work. I know if they wouldnt have answer, someone else would have. I have the Do Not Call Mark on my preference list. What do we need to do to get it across not to Answer the phone no matter what. When the economy turns around, you will get plenty of opportunity to go back to work and be away from you family.

When I was on the furlough board we had a couple people make just as much off the furlough board as they did on the extra board. They were also my favorite ones to bump when we cam back... Now its a quiet trip when I work with em, don't like em and make em walk a little farther...It would be different if they really were starving, but they weren't.

Watch what you say. There are a couple others here that do not get this obvious point and apparently you are 'insensative' for saying it. Sheesh.....

Workin' for benefits is one thing.

Without actually knowing a man's situation, I hate to throw him under the bus. I think the issues today is nobody honestly cares about their brothers and sisters out here. Alot of guys think about number 1, no matter how many people it screws!

I think there are several that actually do care and you seem to be one as your passion indicated. The question is how do we convince those who are hurting us that their actions are detrimental to others and THEMSELVES as well?

Trust me when I say these guys need throwing under the bus. The local Pres. and Leg. Rep. that I know of have both spoken to them and they still do not care.

Like the man said its one thing to be working to extend your 4 months again but to work every time they call you is uncalled for. These guys are screwing the individuals who could possibly extend their insurance by working one time.

Nobody gets it. This is what BNSF wants, a free for all. A union voted this crap in and it didn't effect them personally. It managed to split the union clean in two and now it's everybody for themselves and that is way things are. Anybody that wants to work, I say go for it because it will not be long before everyone that is hired after January 1, 1996 is going feel this economy quick enough. Until we bring back the two unions under one agreement it will always be a mess and we will have a old union and new union.

There has never been a restriction for working off the furlough board. It was never voted in. You need to do some research. All the company did was agree with the union that if an employee was used in emergency service that the employee's health insurance would be extended another 4 months. It does not state that you should work off the furlough whenever possible but people have always did this and have always received a lot of flack from other union members. But then again I have heard people bitching about so and so working off the furlough and then the next week that person that was bitching worked off the furlough board or even worked off turn.

The people that bitch the most are usually from out of town because they want every dollar they can grab.
Most people that worked last week have been off for four months. They were down to hours and if you check closely all have worked very little.
When you get a call you never know if that will be your last call for months and it is hard to turn down because it effects your health insurance and your unemployment benefits which is all these people have left. Once the health care rolls off, it could be long time before you every get enough work to get back on.
If we could get continuous employeement boards like UP has, we would not have to work off the furlough boards.

Ultimately, I would never gripe about a guy working to extend his benefits or get credit for a month of service. It was the reason I turned down furlough work last week so others would have that opportunity. I have benefits and do not need to work as a result and since I will hit age 67 long before I have 30 years, a months credit is not significant to me either.

Now there is another part to working once in 180 days off the furlough board I was wondering about. On the Northern Lines or any part of the BNSF in general did I hear something about if you are furloughed for 180 days or more you have to 'retest'? Not sure if I am addressing it properly, but for those who think they know what I am referencing I would appreciate your input to clarify the concern and misunderstanding I may have regarding that.
