First off let me say i've been there and i somewhat know what its like not to have a job or any money coming in, My experience was a bit different account i could travel to outpost jobs and still continue to work. Did it suck? Yes!! Would i rather had been home sleeping in my bed instead of a 12' pull behind camper? Without a doubt!! But i had bills to pay and i had to try and make a go of it. Its not gonna do any good to point fingers at the old heads and argue back and forth in this forum. Just about everyone who is working for NS is out here for the same reason, To make Money. I honestly feel for the 50 guys we have furloughed out of moberly account they had this smack them right in the face with little to no warning ( Old heads start to grumble) Most of these guys where trained by someone whom only had 2-3 years of experience and also never seen a furlough nor ever got the all important speech "When Your working your ass off in June thru Sept make sure you save some money back because you will be starving in Dec/jan" Secondly over the last few years whenever there was slow period the company was keeping guys working by calling extra switch engines adding brakeman to thru freight etc.. Those days are over.... Not to mention that Credit over the last 10 years has gotten extremely easy to get and i see numerous young guys who are driving Brand new pickups and living in Brand new homes, You couple that with no/little income and you have a recipe for disaster, and thats why this country is so screwed up right now. At least back in the 80's when you wanted to buy a New Car or especially a New home you had to have 20 percent or more down, which taught you the valuable lesson of saving etc... Most of the younger generation didnt get those lessons in life and now WE ARE ALL gonna pay for it.
