Not to be snide, or make light of your situation, but if you didn't know, it's because you didn't listen. Everybody that hires gets the same speech from us. "Work as much as you can stand, save as much as you can stand, and don't go into debt for anything." It's the standard mantra on every terminal.
Some listen, some don't. Some tell you to go get fucked, they will do as they see fit. It happens over, and over, and over again.
As to the other aspect of this, I will be the first one to say I don't understand why someone would stay out here past retirement age. My dad did it under the pretense of doing as he pleased and thumbing his nose at officials. He said he was having fun and it was certainly entertaining to watch. After he retired, he stated he wished he had done it sooner.
So where as I don't get it, I will also be the first one to defend anybody that wants to stay even if it's costing me in the short term.
They earned the right if that's really what they want to do. Period.
